The drive from your home to the grocery store.
The trip to your loved one’s house.
The out of town journey.
Sure, in September on a Tuesday morning, this would be no problem. However this year… Christmas is on a Friday, which means some people get a three day weekend. The following week, New Year's Eve is on a Thursday, and again, some people will get a three-day weekend. This is great for those who get the time off. But for those who need to go to work, or head home after a long day, this can create stress as the number of cars on the road increase.
Try Some of These Tricks to Help Stress Levels on The Road:
1.Take Deep Breaths
Breathe in oxygen, and release negativity (woo-saw).
2. Be Prepared for People to Be People
People will cut you off. They will drive too slow. They will drive too fast. They will even be on their phone and not paying attention at all.
3. Drive a Different Way (Home/Work/Groceries…etc)
Yes, distance-wise it may be out of the way. However, you could save time by driving instead of being stuck in traffic.
4. Leave the House Earlier
If you leave earlier, then, theoretically, you will arrive to your destination earlier.
5. Go to the Gym After Work to Avoid Traffic
Instead of being stuck in traffic for 20-30 minutes, use that time to move your body!
6. Pull Over and Grab a Snack or Drink
I know that I am able to give more grace when I have had a snack. Go to a gas station, grab a drink and a quick snack. Then sit in the parking lot, eat, and then get back on the road. Maybe in that amount of time, the traffic has gotten better!
7. Make a Playlist of Your Favorite Songs
Think back to moments when you were happiest! Wedding day? Football Championship? Homecoming? Use those songs and reminisce about good times!
8. Listen to Podcasts/Audiobooks/Favorite Comedian
Use this time in traffic to learn or be entertained!
9.Use a Calming Essential Oil on Wrists
Try lavender, patchouli, basil, chamomile...
The sooner you can learn to release stress about traffic, the better! Depending on where you live, the traffic may only really be bad around the holidays. So, be thankful you have a car. Be thankful you have a job. Be thankful you have a place to go to that you call home!
