As I have shown homes lately, I have noticed that sometimes Sellers choose to play music in the background while the home showings occur. Sometimes the song choices are great, relaxing, or catchy. Other times, they distracted the buyers, or worse, they made the home showing a non-plesant experience.
Songs For Home Showings: Non-Pleasant Results
Low Rider
This was being played from a karaoke spaceship type shower (yes, this is the best way I can describe it). Although this is a fun song, my client could not get over the song from the space shower.
Intense Meditation Music
This type of music was played throughout the whole home showing experience. It had a lot of chanting, and it was very loud. It became very overwhelming for my clients. We could not focus on the home, and my clients wanted to leave the showing sooner.
Talk Radio
When you are not expecting sellers to be present at home, and you hear conversations, it put my clients on edge with a concern that we were intruding someone’s space.
Halloween Theme Song, during October Showing
I absolutely love Halloween, it is one of my FAVORITE holidays. However, not everyone celebrates Halloween. Not everyone likes scary movies. Walking through the home with this song playing made my clients feel uneasy.
Songs For Home Showings: Pleasant Results
“Spa-Like” Music
Super relaxing, no lyrics, and easy going.
Instrumental Music
Again, no lyrics, just something in the background.
All Else Fails, No Music
Sometimes, it can be super distracting. I have had buyers dance to the music in the home. I have had buyers start to reminisce about the song. I have had buyers try to figure out what song is playing. When the buyers are thinking about the song…. they are NOT thinking about your home.
